The pilot year of the Centre d'Excellence et d'Éducation par le Sport (CEES) is drawing to a close. The time has therefore come to take stock of our actions and share the progress we have made in our mission to promote sporting and educational excellence on Saint-Martin. Our structure is committed to an approach built around four strategic axes: institutional evolution, training and professionalization, the performance pathway, and territorial attractiveness.
Institutional developments: Creation of the CTOS
The CEES played a crucial role in the creation of the Comité Territorial Olympique et Sportif (CTOS), a significant step forward in the structuring of sport on Saint-Martin. Launched on August 31, 2023, the CTOS facilitates dialogue between federations and local sports leagues, committees and clubs. In fact, it was the CTOS that organized the 2024 Island Games. This institution gives us greater legitimacy on the regional sports scene.
Trainingand Professionalization: Departure of the First Technical Managers
Training is at the heart of our strategy. In August, our first four candidates will leave for training, marking the start of our professionalization process. Their return with new skills will reinforce our ability to accompany athletes towards excellence.
Performance Path: School and Sports Results
The 2023/2024 school year saw the launch of the Centres de Perfectionnement Territoriaux (CPT), welcoming 43 students in three disciplines: basketball, soccer, and athletics. Academic performance has been promising, with overall averages of 13.5, 15.40, 14.60, and 14.75 respectively for grades 6ème to 3ème. Of the 9 brevet candidates, 8 obtained their diploma. In sporting terms, our athletes put in fine performances.
In the soccer discipline, 3 girls and 2 boys have been recruited in Guadeloupe and France in specialized sports sections, starting next autumn.
In basketball, after defeating the oldest pole (Martinique) in the Antilles-Guyane zone inter-pole tournament, a student-athlete was selected as one of the top 60 French players in the U14 category and will be taking part in a national camp during the All Saints' vacation.
In athletics, our student-athletes also shone: one athlete won the title of Guadeloupe champion in the minimes category for the 1000m, while another athlete became Guadeloupe vice-champion in the benjamins category for the 1000m.
Future Programsand Events
For 2024/2025, we will be expanding our Territorial Sports Centers to include new disciplines such as sailing, tennis, gymnastics and cycling, from 43 to 79 registrants. The new school year will start on August 19, 2024.
In addition, CEES will become a Public Institution, strengthening our administrative and legal structure. We will also be launching an events and communications department to organize competitions and promote Saint-Martin.
The year 2023/2024 allowed us to test and adjust our project. Collaboration with our partners has been fruitful. For the start of the new school year, we will be pursuing our quest for sporting and educational excellence, by strengthening our existing facilities and integrating new disciplines. The change in CEES' status and the launch of our events division mark important milestones in our development, consolidating our structure and our influence for the youth of our region.
