There are trips that remain forever engraved in our memories, such as our trip to the Island Games in Ajaccio, Corsica. Yesterday, the St. Martin delegation flew to the Isle of Beauty: a first for our Friendly Island.
What is the IDD?
For the first time, the community of Saint-Martin is invited under its own banner, for the 25th edition of the IGS.
The island games are organized in turn by the members of the Organizing Committee of the Island Games (COJI).
The COJI is a non-governmental organization whose idea is to promote, through sport, the values of community life and social integration, while promoting collaboration between islands around the world.
We will be represented this year by 5 disciplines:
- Tennis
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Gymnastics
- Athletics
The St. Martinese delegation will be 55 people strong, including :
- 37 athletes
- 16 coaches referee delegates
- 1 journalist from the Collectivity
- 1 Head of delegation
What is at stake for our territory?
Participating in the Island Games is a pride for the athletes, the parents and of course the territory. The whole island is mobilized by this move. However, at the sports level, it represents an incredible opening for the athletes and the technical staff. Indeed, it is very important to measure oneself against other athletes in one's discipline in order to progress, to discover new techniques and to exchange with other people from different backgrounds who share the same passions.
This trip, whatever the outcome, will be beneficial for all (athletes, coach, CESS member, etc.)
